Where to Buy Good Food in Uvita, Dominical & Ojochal

If you're cooking during your stay at the villa, the Costa Ballena region has a surprisingly good network of small, specialized shops rather than one big supermarket for everything. Here's where locals and long-term visitors actually shop.

Fresh Produce, Eggs & Dairy — Sura Orgánica (Uvita)

Sura Orgánica is the go-to for fruits, vegetables, eggs, and dairy — with gluten-free and keto-friendly options alongside the basics. They also offer home delivery if you'd rather not make the trip. Open Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

Fresh Fish — El Coral (Uvita)

For fish caught that same day, head to El Coral. A straightforward, no-frills local fish shop — exactly what you want when the catch needs to go straight from the boat to your kitchen.

Grass-Fed Meat — Seguras Meat Market (Uvita)

A family-run butcher on the road to Playa Colonia, known for genuinely 100% grass-fed beef, along with raw milk, raw yogurt, and artisan butter and cheese from the same farm. If you want a proper steak night at the villa, this is the source.

Grass Fed Costa Rica — Weekly Delivery to the Villa

Regenerative-grazing beef, chicken, lamb, and pork, 100% grass-fed, raised on their own certified Land to Market® farm in San Carlos (the first farm in the country to earn that certification). They have a retail shop in Santa Ana and offer weekly delivery all the way to Uvita — ideal for longer stays, so you're not making repeat grocery runs. They also carry beef jerky and homemade bone broth. Order ahead for scheduled delivery straight to the villa.

Everyday Groceries — Supermercado BM (Uvita)

For everything else — pantry staples, snacks, drinks, household basics — Supermercado BM is the area's main general grocery store, located next to Restaurante Marino Ballena. It carries both local products and imported international brands, including a decent wine selection, so it's usually enough for a full grocery run in one stop.

Organic & Natural Foods — Mama Toucan's (Dominical)

Worth the short drive to Dominical: Mama Toucan's is one of the largest organic and natural food stores in Costa Rica, with thousands of products — organic produce, bulk foods, supplements, and clean body care. There's also a deli on-site serving fresh sandwiches, salads, and their own vegan ice cream if you want lunch while you're there. Open daily, 8am–8pm.

International Pantry & Specialty Ingredients — Origin (Ojochal)

Ojochal's international food scene (see our dining guide) is backed up by shops like Origin, an organic market carrying the specialty ingredients that match the village's French, Thai, and European kitchens — the kind of items you won't find at a standard supermarket.
